A court handed down a seven-year prison sentence on Tuesday to Soraya Abu Arar, who was convicted of causing the deaths of Shachaf Danino and Eliav Avaksis in a fatal traffic collision that occurred just three months before the couple's planned wedding.
The court also ordered Abu Arar to pay compensation of 180,000 shekels to each of the victims' families. In a particularly troubling aspect of the case, the driver attempted to destroy evidence following the crash. Despite this, authorities returned her vehicle to her just months after the incident, according to the court order.
Danino and Avaksis were killed in February 2025 in a severe traffic accident on Route 310. The engaged couple had been scheduled to marry approximately four months after the collision took their lives.
