Israel Police announced Sunday the conclusion of a complex investigation into a fatal assault that took place in central Israel several months ago, following intensive work by the Yarkon district's Crime Fighting Unit.

The incident began on August 22, 2026, when police received an urgent report of a serious violent incident at a residential apartment in Herzliya. Officers from the Glilot station who were dispatched to the scene and forced entry into the flat discovered a man unconscious and suffering from severe and critical injuries across his body. Medical teams who arrived at the scene provided life-saving treatment on site and evacuated him by intensive-care ambulance, while performing resuscitation efforts, to Meir Medical Center in critical condition.

The victim was hospitalized in the intensive care unit, sedated and on a ventilator, as medical staff fought around the clock to save his life. After weeks in which he hovered between life and death, doctors were forced to pronounce him dead on September 12, 2026, due to his catastrophic injuries that left no chance of survival.

From the investigation conducted by detectives from the Yarkon Crime Fighting Unit, the full picture began to emerge, revealing that the fatal incident developed around a drinking table. According to police suspicion, the two men were together in the apartment consuming alcohol heavily when at a certain point a verbal argument developed between them that quickly escalated into a brutal physical confrontation. During the violent altercation, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with great force and caused him severe injuries to his head and body, injuries that ultimately led to the collapse of his systems and his death.

As part of handling the case, police released video documentation from the day of the incident illustrating the response on the ground. The footage shows moments from the body cameras of the first officers who arrived at the scene, documenting passage through the apartment's corridors and rooms where signs of violence and blood were visible.

The documentation also includes a filmed briefing by the Yarkon Crime Fighting Unit interrogation officer, Chief Inspector Liran Kakob, standing against the backdrop of Israeli and Israel Police flags and detailing to the camera the sequence of events from the arrival of forces at the apartment until the stage of evacuating the victim in critical condition. In addition, the video documents the building's stairwells and the operational activities of enforcement forces.

The arrest of the suspect, identified as a 34-year-old Herzliya resident, was extended from time to time in magistrate's court in accordance with developments in the investigation. Now, with the completion of all investigative actions and the formation of a solid evidentiary foundation against him, the case has been transferred for review by the prosecution, which has filed a prosecutor's statement with the court. In the coming days, the prosecution is expected to file extremely severe charges against him in district court, alongside a request for detention until the end of legal proceedings behind bars.
