Two 15-year-old boys, residents of Ashdod, were arrested over the weekend by officers from the city's police station after they were suspected of throwing firebombs at a municipal enforcement vehicle and at an official police car.
The incident began when the Ashdod station's dispatch center received a report over the weekend about a firebomb thrown at a municipal enforcement vehicle parked in the city. Upon receiving the report, police forces arrived at the scene, and Ashdod police immediately opened a formal investigation that included collecting physical and forensic evidence from the site and conducting overt and covert investigative operations to track down those suspected of the act.
There were no physical injuries and no material damage was caused to the vehicle.
As the investigation progressed and the police examination advanced, investigators gathered evidencem which led to well-founded suspicion linking the two not only to the first incident involving the enforcement vehicle, but also to an additional incident in which a firebomb was thrown at a police car. Just as in the previous case, the incident involving the police vehicle also resulted in no physical injuries and no damage to the security forces operating in the field.
After identifying the suspects, Ashdod station officers located the two 15-year-old boys, arrested them for questioning at the station, and transferred them for continued investigation.
Police brought the two minors before the court today, asking to extend their detention to allow completion of the required operations and full prosecution.
Police released today a photograph of the two suspected youths, with their faces blurred and handcuffs on their hands. Both are dressed in black.
Israel Police emphasized following the arrests that it views with great severity any attempt to harm security forces, law enforcement personnel, and municipal enforcement officers operating in the field, and will continue to act with full determination to prosecute to the fullest extent those involved in serious violent offenses that endanger lives in the public sphere.
