Elad: Car of Mayor's Chief of Staff Torched, Stun Grenade Thrown at City Manager's Home

Two senior officials in the chareidi city of Elad were targeted in serious attacks overnight. The car of Shimon Suissa, chief of staff to the mayor, was set on fire, and in a separate incident a stun grenade was thrown at the home of Amnon Maximov, the city manager.

Police suspect criminal elements are behind the attacks, possibly in an attempt to intimidate municipal leadership following recent enforcement actions in the city aimed at maintaining public order.

Both officials filed complaints with police, who have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incidents and are working to identify those responsible. Investigators are examining whether the attacks are connected to the municipality's recent activity.

At this stage, it remains unclear who is behind the attacks or whether they are definitively linked to municipal enforcement. The investigation is ongoing.

Municipality responds

In response to the incidents, the Elad municipality issued a statement: "Following the events of recent hours, including threats directed at senior municipal officials, the Elad municipality makes clear that it will not be intimidated by criminal elements attempting to terrorize residents and municipal leadership."

"These are illegitimate attempts to instill fear and harm the public's sense of security. The Elad municipality will not allow these elements to dictate the municipal agenda through threats or pressure."

"The municipality will continue to act with determination, responsibility and without fear for the sake of public order, law enforcement and safeguarding the security and quality of life of residents, in cooperation with police and enforcement authorities."

"No threat will deter us. We will continue to work for the residents of Elad, so that the city remains a safe, orderly and law-abiding place for all."
