15-Minute Honey-Garlic Chicken Recipe

A simple weekday meal combining sweet honey, fresh lemon, and aromatic garlic in a glossy pan sauce

Honey-Garlic Chicken

When time is short and hunger strikes, the prospect of spending an hour in the kitchen feels impossible. This honey-garlic chicken breast recipe solves that problem, delivering a flavorful meal in just 15 minutes with minimal effort.

For 2 portions:

Ingredients:

400 grams of chicken breast, sliced into strips or thin cutlets. (Uniform sizing ensures even cooking.)

For the sauce:

2 tablespoons of olive oil

3 crushed garlic cloves

2 tablespoons of honey (date syrup works as an alternative)

2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice

1 tablespoon of soy sauce

Salt, black pepper, and sweet paprika for seasoning.

Method

  1. Season the chicken strips with salt, pepper, and paprika—no extended marinating required, just a quick toss.
  2. Heat olive oil in a wide skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the chicken strips and cook for three to four minutes per side until golden and nearly cooked through. Avoid crowding the pan; cook in batches if necessary. Transfer the cooked chicken to a plate.

4. Without cleaning the skillet (the browned bits add flavor) reduce the heat slightly and add the crushed garlic. Cook for just 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it, which would create bitterness.

5. Add the honey, lemon juice, and soy sauce to the pan. Stir for about a minute as the sauce bubbles and thickens slightly, reducing into a shiny glaze.

6. Return the chicken to the skillet and toss gently for another minute, coating each piece thoroughly in the glossy sauce. Remove from heat and serve immediately.

The dish pairs well with steamed white rice, cooked couscous, or sautéed green vegetables.

Bell peppers or small broccoli florets can be included during the initial cooking stage.

Those who enjoy heat can add fresh chopped chili or dried chili flakes with the garlic.

For a richer sauce, a tablespoon of cooking cream stirred in during the sauce stage creates a creamier consistency.
