10-Minute Pita Pizza Recipe

Splitting pitas into thin rounds and baking at high heat creates a crispy base for a fast weeknight dinner

Pita pizza

When dinnertime approaches and hungry children are waiting, there isn't always time to prepare yeast dough that requires an hour of rising. This pita pizza recipe offers a solution: ready in just 10 minutes, crispy on the outside and tender within, consistently popular with kids. The key lies in splitting each pita into two thin rounds and baking briefly at high temperature.

Unlike traditional homemade pizza requiring dough preparation, rising time, and extended waiting, pita pizza provides a quick alternative. The central technique involves splitting the pitas: when each one is separated into two thin circles, the thinner surface bakes rapidly without becoming soggy. The outcome resembles authentic Italian pizza in texture, achieved in a fraction of the usual time.

The recipe serves four people and yields eight individual pizzas.

Ingredients:

4 fresh pitas split into thin rounds

3/4 cup of rich tomato sauce (either prepared pizza sauce or crushed tomatoes mixed with olive oil, salt, and oregano),

2 cups of shredded yellow cheese, mozzarella, or a cheese blend.

Toppings options include corn, green or black olives, mushrooms, or tuna—whatever suits family preferences.

Method:

  1. Preheating the oven to 210°C (410°F) on convection or with both top and bottom heating elements.
  2. While the oven heats, split the pitas lengthwise to create eight thin rounds. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, with the inner surface of the pita facing upward - this becomes the pizza base.
  3. Spread a generous layer of tomato sauce on each pita round, distribute cheese liberally, and add chosen toppings. Children can help assemble their own pizzas, turning preparation into a family activity.

4. Bake the pizzas for only six to eight minutes, until the cheese melts and browns and the pita base becomes very crispy. This brief baking time prevents the pita from turning soggy, a common mistake when pita pizzas are baked too long. For particularly powerful ovens, check after five to six minutes.

5. The pizza is ready when the cheese bubbles lightly and the pita edges begin to brown.

Pro tip: Avoid waiting too long: removing the pizza slightly early is preferable to overbaking.

This recipe joins a growing collection of quick homemade pizza methods that have gained popularity among families. While professional pizzerias invest in sourdough starters and lengthy preparation processes, pita pizza offers an excellent compromise between taste, texture, and preparation time.

Pita pizza serves as an ideal solution for busy evenings, quick meals, or simply when something comforting is desired without significant effort. Children enjoy eating it, parents appreciate the simplicity, and the results consistently succeed.
