"We should have asked the rabbanim"

MK Yitzchak Pindrus of United Torah Judaism sparked controversy Thursday after suggesting that the current government failed because of Amir Ohaana's role as Knesset speaker.

In a podcast with 'Mishpacha', Pindrus said, "They voted for a Knesset speaker where there was a chillul Hashem in it,"alluding to Ohana's sexual orientation.

"I wasn't faction chairman then, I was in Norway, I only entered the Knesset afterward. I think this chillul Hashem has a price," the UTJ MK said.

He added: "One who takes counsel from the elders does not fail, such a thing should have been asked, and I have great doubt that if we had asked about such a thing, such a chillul Hashem would have come out under our hands."

When he was asked whether Ohana could serve in other roles, such as foreign minister, he replied: "I don't know, but we would need to ask the rabbanim."
