Gantz in tears over family situation

Blue and White chairman Benny Gantz, facing repeated calls to withdraw from the election race, shares the pain of the difficult period he is experiencing and his complex family situation

Knesset Member and Blue and White chairman Benny Gantz became emotional when speaking about his family on the i24 podcast with host Eliraz Sadeh.

"I'm going through a difficult time and we've learned to live with it," Gantz said at the outset. "I have wonderful children and a wonderful wife." When asked what his children tell him about the recent period and whether he should withdraw from the race, Gantz replied: "My children are very supportive. They see all the dilemmas and think together with me about what to do."

Gantz continued: "My children are my real partners, they're the ones who will stay with me on every journey, you saw that others didn't." At this point, Gantz began to tear up and struggled to speak. "The family conversations are about big things. We have conversations in the family about the house, where is better for Mom - at home or somewhere else."

Host Eliraz Sadeh added: "That's life itself, isn't it? Everything is for them." Gantz nodded, tears visible in his eyes.

Gantz previously revealed that his wife suffers from Alzheimer's disease. In an interview on Channel 12 News, he said: "I miss her very much. It's something I can't influence. It's something I need to know how to live with. You have to understand that the disease isn't an on-and-off switch. It's a negative dimmer of disappearance and withdrawal into yourself and disconnection from the environment, and then suddenly night comes."
