When Does the Fast Begin and End? Asara B'Tevet 5786
As Teves 10 dawns tomorrow (Tuesday, December 30, 2025), we observes Asara B'Tevet, the fast marking the siege of Yerushalayim that led to the First Beis Hamikdash's destruction. From dawn until nightfall, we pause to contemplate galus, teshuvah, and the enduring light of hope.

Fast Times for Asara B'Tevet 5786
Fast begins: 5:02 AM (throughout Israel)
Fast ends: 5:23 PM (throughout Israel)
The Minor Fasts and Their Laws
Jews are obligated to fast on the 17th of Tammuz, the 3rd of Tishrei (Tzom Gedaliah), and the 10th of Tevet. These fasts are not optional.
Among Sephardic communities, it is customary to announce the fast in synagogue on the Shabbat before these fast days.
According to many poskim, pregnant women or nursing mothers (within two years of giving birth) are not required to fast if it would cause them difficulty. However, they should refrain from eating delicacies and consume only what is necessary.
These fasts begin at dawn (this year at 5:02 AM) and conclude at nightfall when the stars emerge (this year at 5:23 PM).
Pre-Fast Guidelines
Someone who wishes to eat or drink before the fast begins (before dawn) must verbally express their intention to wake up during the night to eat. Anyone who forgot to make this stipulation may not eat or drink.
What's Prohibited on the Fast
Brushing teeth or rinsing one's mouth is not permitted during the fast, nor is chewing gum allowed.
