Haredi Woman Confronts NYC Mayor Over Israel Stance

A tense confrontation unfolded in Brooklyn's Boro Park neighborhood just before the Jewish High Holidays when New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani visited a local Jewish bookstore and religious goods shop. During his visit, a Haredi woman who lives in the area approached the mayor and, while filming the encounter, delivered a sharp rebuke in front of other customers and his entourage.

The woman directly accused Mamdani of contributing to rising hatred against Israel and the Jewish people. "It's all because of you that we have so much antisemitism," she declared angrily. She continued: "You're causing antisemitism, you're not America's ambassador. How dare you come to Boro Park, the place where my grandmother came after the Holocaust? You have such nerve to come here."

As she spoke, security personnel and members of the mayor's team attempted to move her away, but she resisted their efforts and made clear she had every right to be there. "Don't push me, I'm shopping here, I'm a customer," she said firmly. "I'm not violent and I don't have a weapon."

She then made an emotional appeal for him to stop what she characterized as anti-Israel activity: "Stop the antisemitism! You have all the power to stop the antisemitism, I'm begging you as a granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. All you do is focus on Israel and bring harm to the Jewish people." She emphasized the community's connection to the Jewish state: "Everyone here, their heart is Israel. It's ours from the Torah, the people of Israel lives forever."

The woman also turned her criticism toward Haredi individuals accompanying the mayor, questioning their presence. "You support him? If you support Israel then why is he here? All he wants is to stop Bibi Netanyahu," she challenged them.

As the mayor left the store, the woman continued her protest, this time directing her anger at the shop's management for hosting the visit. She pointed to a nearby building on the street and said: "You see that building up there? That's where my grandmother had her wig shop after the Holocaust in Boro Park, my grandmother Shaindel right there, and this antisemite walks in from there." She concluded with a harsh statement to those who had welcomed him: "Shame on you for allowing him to come to the heart of the Jewish neighborhood in Boro Park."

Mamdani, New York City's Muslim mayor, has faced sharp criticism from the city's Jewish community in recent months over his positions on Israel. As previously reported, dozens of senior officials have revealed that he displays extreme sensitivity to public criticism and personally contacts elected officials who dare to criticize him.

This is not the first time Mamdani has encountered confrontations with the Jewish community. At a New York Police Department event, he experienced an embarrassing incident when he took the stage to speak and was met with a hostile reception that included loud jeers, forcing him to cut his remarks short and leave the stage in under a minute.
