Lipa Schmeltzer Celebrates Trump, Shabbat in New Song | LISTEN

American Jewish singer Lipa Schmeltzer has released a musical tribute to US President Donald Trump, thanking him for his support of Shabbat observance and his friendship toward the Jewish people.
The song was released after Trump issued a proclamation marking May 2026 as Jewish American Heritage Month and called for a national Sabbath to be observed from sundown on May 15 through nightfall on May 16. The president framed the national Sabbath as part of the commemoration of 250 years of American independence and encouraged Americans of all backgrounds to take part in a period of rest, reflection and gratitude.
Schmeltzer said the song was meant as a gesture of appreciation for Trump’s recognition of the Jewish community and support for Shabbat.
“After realizing how much recognition and love our President has shown the Jewish people; especially now, as we celebrate 250 years of American freedom, and with President Trump encouraging greater Shabbos observance nationwide, I wanted to do my small part to express appreciation on behalf of my fans, friends, and community,” Schmeltzer wrote.
He described the song as offered “with warmth, gratitude, and a little fun.”
Trump’s Jewish American Heritage Month proclamation highlighted the role of Jewish Americans in the country’s history and praised their contributions to American life since the founding of the United States. The proclamation also referenced the Jewish tradition of setting aside time for rest, prayer and gratitude to God.
In the proclamation, Trump also repeated his administration’s commitment to combating antisemitism, including through prosecutions of crimes targeting Jewish Americans and efforts to confront anti-Jewish hostility on college campuses.
The national Sabbath declaration was one of the more unusual elements of the proclamation, taking a specifically Jewish religious practice and presenting it as a model for broader national reflection. Because apparently even America, after 250 years of noise, may briefly consider shutting up for a day. A revolutionary concept, truly.
Schmeltzer, one of the best-known performers in the Orthodox Jewish music world, has often mixed humor, emotion and public messaging in his work. His tribute to Trump follows other public performances and songs connected to Jewish communal moments, Israeli figures and current events.
Trump’s proclamation called on Americans to mark Jewish American Heritage Month with appropriate programs and activities and to celebrate both religious freedom and the Jewish community’s role in the country’s development.
“Through every trial and triumph, the contributions of Jewish Americans have shaped our past, have strengthened our communities, and will continue to inspire American greatness for generations to come,” the proclamation stated.
