Attorney General Blocks Netanyahu Pardon Request: Disgraceful Conduct

Attorney Ilan Bombach said Monday morning, in an interview with Avi Ratzon, that Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara has not yet submitted her opinion on the pardon request filed on behalf of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"To this day, Miara hasn't even responded. She hasn't submitted her opinion on the pardon request filed on behalf of the Prime Minister," Bombach said.

He addressed the pardon request itself: "By the way, this isn't a pardon for the Prime Minister, it's a pardon for the prosecution for the serious conduct that's been going on until now."

According to Bombach, the President has the authority to reject any recommendation submitted to him, but as long as the Attorney General's opinion has not been filed, no decision can be made on the request.

"The President can deviate from the recommendation, but he cannot decide on the pardon request when there is no opinion from the Attorney General," he said.

Bombach claimed the delay in submitting the opinion is designed to prevent the request from moving forward: "She's doing everything to torpedo this, to delay it, not to submit her position regarding the pardon."

Toward the end of his remarks, Bombach sharpened his criticism of how the request is being handled: "This is disgraceful, serious conduct. I can't describe how serious this is, it feels like she's operating like in Sicily."
