Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar met with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and United States Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz in New York for a trilateral diplomatic summit. The high level meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Israel and Morocco, elevating formal diplomatic representation, and expanding direct aviation routes between the two nations.
Following the trilateral session, Foreign Minister Sa'ar and Foreign Minister Bourita held a scheduled one on one bilateral meeting. During the summit, the three participating countries formally recommitted to executing a series of measures designed to advance Israel Morocco ties.
Under the terms of the agreement, Israel and Morocco will officially upgrade their diplomatic missions to full embassies, which includes appointing accredited ambassadors to both capitals. The decision establishes formal ambassadorial representation to solidify administrative and diplomatic channels between Rabat and Jerusalem.
The two governments agreed to finalize comprehensive bilateral financial agreements by the end of 2026. These accords include mutual investment protection frameworks and double taxation prevention treaties, aimed at easing cross border investments and boosting commercial ties between business sectors in both countries.
Aviation connections will expand significantly under the new agreement. Direct flights between Israel and Morocco will now include operations by Moroccan commercial airlines, which are scheduled to begin landing at Ben Gurion International Airport within the coming weeks.
"The friendship between the Moroccan people and the Jewish people has deep roots and a glorious history," Foreign Minister Sa'ar stated during the summit. "The declaration we signed today details practical ways to upgrade relations between Israel and Morocco for the benefit of both nations, and we will work diligently to implement it."
The summit also established plans for mutual high level visits by government officials from both nations over the coming months. The Israeli Foreign Minister's Office expressed gratitude toward Washington for facilitating the talks, stating, "Israel thanks the US for its leadership and constant pursuit of peace and security, which enabled this trilateral summit and helped strengthen Israel Morocco relations."
The trilateral summit took place a day after Ambassador Waltz hosted a diplomatic reception at his residence celebrating six years of the Abraham Accords. Representatives from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Israel, and the United States attended the event.
