First Somali woman elected to UK Parliament, succeeding Keir Starmer in Holborn and St Pancras

Sagal Abdi-Wali, a Labour Party representative, has been elected to the British Parliament for the Holborn and St Pancras district in London, succeeding outgoing Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the seat. Abdi-Wali, who arrived in Britain as a refugee from Somalia in the 1990s, is the first Somali woman to serve as a Member of Parliament in the UK. Starmer, who is resigning as Prime Minister, stated: "My work is done. Britain today is stronger and fairer than it was two years ago. I leave in good spirits, with a smile, and proud of all that we have achieved."
