The Pentagon has drawn up a plan for a short, intense three-day campaign against Iran, but President Donald Trump is holding back from restarting the war for now.
According to The New York Times, the plan targets Iran’s missile and drone arsenals, energy facilities and Revolutionary Guard headquarters.
The planning comes alongside a major military buildup. Three U.S. aircraft carriers are expected to be deployed in the Middle East, along with more than 20,000 sailors and Marines and hundreds of aircraft. It would be the first time since April that three carriers are in the region at once.
Trump remains hesitant despite an increase in Iranian attacks, the report said. He said Thursday that he will not strike Iran before the midterm elections.
So far, the president has rejected five strike plans presented to him.
