Yisrael Beiteinu, the secular right-wing party led by Avigdor Liberman, announced another high-profile recruit on Monday as retired Colonel Danny Shachar joined its ranks. Shachar, a former naval commando who most recently served as director-general of Israel's Tourism Ministry, publicly endorsed Liberman as the country looks toward elections expected in 2026.
"Throughout my life, I've acted with a sense of mission and responsibility to the State of Israel, as a fighter and commander in the IDF and as a public administrator," Shachar said in a statement. "My experience, both in the security field and in managing public systems during routine times and emergencies, has taught me that in the most complex hours, a country needs leadership that knows how to make decisions, withstand pressure, and take responsibility."
Shachar pointed to his wartime experience managing the displacement crisis as formative. "During the war, I saw up close the struggle of residents from the north and south who were forced to leave their homes, and the importance of a functioning state that knows how to provide its citizens with real-time solutions," he said. "That's why I support Avigdor Liberman and Yisrael Beiteinu. Liberman is a strong and experienced leader with a clear security vision, backbone, and executive capability. The State of Israel today needs leadership with experience, determination, and courage to make the right decisions for the country's security and future."
