Josh Breiner, crime correspondent for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, commented Friday on developments in the case of Liel and Mali Yahalomi, a mother and daughter who have been missing in Austria for a week.
According to footage obtained by local authorities, the two women left their apartment with their personal belongings and were not accompanied by anyone else.
In his remarks, Breiner said: "From what I'm hearing, the Austrian police are sluggish on this incident. A police source is telling me they estimate the two are alive and expresses optimism about the incident. I don't know what basis they have for that statement, and one can hope he's right. Either way, there's been no sign of life from the two as far as I know, and the last trace of them was Saturday at 9 a.m. a week ago near the train station in Vienna and a local park."
