IDF Strikes Hezbollah Commander After Attack

IDF Eliminates Senior Hezbollah Commander Following Drone Attack on Israeli Troops

The Israel Defense Forces struck a target in the Deir al-Zahrani area of southern Lebanon on Saturday, killing Abu Hassan Alaa, a senior commander in Hezbollah's Badr Unit. The strike came as an immediate response to a Hezbollah terror attack against Israeli forces operating in the security zone. Earlier that day, an IDF officer and two soldiers were seriously wounded when an explosive drone struck their position in southern Lebanon.

According to the military's statement, Alaa held a senior command position within the Badr Unit and played an active role in advancing numerous terror operations against Israeli forces. His responsibilities included launching explosive drones at IDF troops in southern Lebanon and planning additional attacks.

He commanded multiple combat sectors within Hezbollah's organizational structure and was involved in terror operations targeting both Israeli military personnel and civilians. His elimination represents a significant blow to the Badr Unit's command capabilities.

The strike follows the recent killing of Ali Samir al-Haj Hassan, who served as a battalion commander in Hezbollah's Radwan Force and was eliminated at a headquarters in Ansar.

Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a statement following the operation, declaring: "No account in any arena will remain open. We will respond forcefully to protect our soldiers and civilians."

The IDF's official announcement emphasized that Israel will not permit Hezbollah to harm Israeli civilians or military forces, and will continue operations to remove threats. The elimination adds to a series of actions the IDF has been conducting in southern Lebanon as part of ongoing efforts to neutralize the persistent threat posed by the terror organization.

The strike occurs against a backdrop of sustained tension along Israel's northern border and extensive Israeli military activity in southern Lebanon. IDF forces are operating in the security zone with the aim of dismantling terror infrastructure and preventing attacks on security personnel and civilians.

Separately, the United States issued a sharp statement placing full responsibility on Hezbollah for the Israeli military presence in Lebanese territory. A State Department spokesperson clarified that "Hezbollah bears sole responsibility for the Israeli presence on Lebanese soil," emphasizing that the organization represents the primary obstacle to Lebanon's reconstruction and economic growth.
