Iran Threatens NATO Member Bulgaria Over U.S. Military Aid

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman issued a stark warning on Monday directed at Bulgaria, a member of both NATO and the European Union. The explicit threat against a Western allied nation represents a dramatic escalation that could lead to unprecedented regional tensions.

In an official statement, the spokesman said Iran had noted that "several KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft, if I'm not mistaken, have left Bulgaria." He emphasized domestic criticism within the European country, stating: "From the beginning, as many public figures and politicians in Bulgaria have declared, this step contradicts international law, while we have no problem with the Bulgarian people."

The Iranian spokesman clarified Tehran's position on military assistance: "This is perceived to some extent as support for the military aggression of the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran. We have declared that according to international law, such participation is considered an act of aggression."

He then addressed the broader international arena: "We hope that other countries, which in one way or another make their bases and resources available to the United States and the Zionist regime for the purpose of committing the crime of aggression against a member state of the United Nations, will take the necessary steps."

The spokesman outlined conditions for de-escalation: "There is no reason for any country to be concerned by us, unless its bases, resources and equipment are made available to aggressive parties for carrying out an illegal act." He concluded with a direct and unprecedented threat: "It is Iran's right to target the source and origin of any act of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran. This is part of international law, and as we have shown, in defending Iran's sovereignty we will not compromise in any way."
