Israel's Meteorological Service has issued a special weather alert warning of an exceptionally rare storm system expected to strike the country beginning Saturday night and intensifying through Sunday morning, which is highly unusual for this time of year.
According to the updated forecast, a sharp weather shift will occur Saturday evening. Overnight into Sunday, a widespread rain system will move across the region, concentrating its heaviest impact along the northern coast, the Sharon plain, the greater Tel Aviv metropolitan area, and the Shfela lowlands.
The storm is expected to peak early Sunday morning. Meteorologists estimate that coastal areas could receive between 20 to 30 millimeters of rainfall within an extremely compressed timeframe of just one to three hours. The downpours will likely be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and hail. Given the intensity and the substantial rainfall amounts expected in such a short period, authorities are warning of a real risk of urban flooding and significant disruptions in coastal cities, including the Tel Aviv metropolitan area and Shfela communities.
