Israeli Missing in Japan for Three Weeks

Amir Ambarbar, 23, from Ramla entered Japan on August 2 and has not been heard from since; Israeli police authorize public appeal as search continues

Kyoto, Japan

A 23-year-old Israeli man has been missing in Japan for more than three weeks with no information about his whereabouts, Israeli police announced Thursday after receiving family authorization to publicize the case.

Amir Ambarbar from Ramla left Israel on April 20, 2026, according to police records. His most recent documented movement was entry into Japan on August 2. Since that date, all contact with him has been lost.

After many days passed without any information about his condition or location, police received permission from family members to release details of his disappearance and request public assistance. Ambarbar is described as approximately 1.70 meters (5'7") tall, with a slim build, brown hair, and dark eyes.

Anyone with information that could help locate Ambarbar or shed light on the circumstances of his disappearance is urged to contact Israeli police immediately at 100 or the Ramla police station at 08-9279444.

This case joins a series of disappearances that have occupied Israeli law enforcement and the public in recent weeks. Nachman Kinan, 24, from Beit Shemesh, went missing over a week ago while traveling to Tzfat (Safed, a city in northern Israel), with his last known location recorded near Tiberias. His family and volunteers continue extensive searches in the area.

Meli and Liel Yehalomi, a mother and daughter from Israel who disappeared in Vienna, Austria, were located over the weekend in Argentina after serious concerns were raised for their safety. They were found safe and unharmed.
