The solemn fasting day of Yom Kippur concluded with emergency services reporting tragic incidents, including fatal road accidents and a violent crime investigation. MDA paramedics and EMTs responded to thousands of calls across the country, highlighting the heavy strain on medical staff during the annual holiday.
MDA confirmed that two individuals in their thirties and forties lost their lives in separate traffic accidents. Bashar Khatib, a thirty five year old resident of Kafr Kanna, died when his concrete mixer truck overturned in Bu'eina Nujeidat in the Galilee, trapping him inside. Firefighters executed complex rescue operations, but ultimately extracted him with no signs of life.
An additional thirty seven year old woman sustained severe injuries in a traffic collision, alongside three individuals with moderate injuries and thirty nine with minor injuries. Emergency medics were dispatched to provide medical treatment to 3,322 people nationwide. Out of all emergency calls, 2,268 individuals were transported to hospitals for further medical care.
Among those hospitalized, 368 people fainted, suffered from dehydration, or felt unwell due to fasting. Furthermore, 298 individuals required medical attention for injuries sustained while riding bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, and skateboards. This group included eight people in moderate condition and 290 with minor injuries.
Emergency teams also assisted in transporting 154 pregnant women to hospitals, with paramedics successfully delivering three babies during transit. In a separate tragic event, a man around forty years old was killed in an act of violence in Umm al Fahm. Police confirmed that the victim was an undocumented resident and announced the opening of an investigation.
Authorities stated that all investigation directions are currently being examined. An additional thirty eight people sustained injuries in violent incidents across the country, comprising one seriously injured person, four moderately injured, and thirty three with minor injuries.
Blood services provided hospitals across Israel with 152 units and components of blood during the holiday. Independent medical safety analysts emphasize that community vigilance and adherence to traffic safety guidelines remain critical during major holidays to prevent such tragedies.
