Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu officially confirmed on Tuesday that the head of Hamas's internal security apparatus was captured in Gaza near his residence. In his statement, Netanyahu commended the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet (Israel's internal security service) for carrying out the operation.

"I commend the Shin Bet and IDF for their bold operation today in which they arrested the head of Hamas's internal security mechanism near his home in Gaza," Netanyahu stated. According to the prime minister, the detained individual ranks among Hamas's most senior leaders and bore responsibility for concealing and transporting Israeli hostages, hiding senior Hamas officials, and working to rebuild the terrorist organization's capabilities.

Netanyahu further noted that the arrested Hamas official had recently been involved in efforts to restore Hamas governance in Gaza, engaged in deception regarding the demilitarization of the Strip, and assisted in carrying out terrorist attacks against Israeli forces and civilians.

Concluding his remarks, Netanyahu emphasized Israel's ongoing commitment: "My directive is clear: the State of Israel will continue to pursue all Hamas leaders and everyone who took part in the October 7 massacre."
