Journalist Arrested for Iran Ties

Reporter for Iran-linked channel detained on suspicion of trading with the enemy and incitement; court extends remand through September 23 as investigation continues

Palestinian Journalist Arrested on Suspicion of Trading with Iran

A Palestinian journalist employed as a reporter for a television channel suspected of links to Iran was arrested several days ago on suspicion of trading with the enemy, incitement, and supporting a hostile organization. The Binyamin Court extended her detention yesterday (Thursday) by seven additional days, through September 23.

The suspect, a resident of Betunia in her 30s, was arrested by investigators from the Crime Fighting Unit in the Samaria District of the Judea and Samaria Police. The investigation is being conducted in cooperation with additional security agencies, with findings and evidence being examined regarding the nature of the connection between the suspect and Iran.

According to the suspicions, the journalist acted against regional security and IDF operations, while identifying with and inciting to terrorism. Police investigators are gathering findings and examining the network of connections between the suspect and Iranian elements, as part of a complex investigation that has been ongoing for several days.

At yesterday's hearing in the Binyamin Court, police requested to extend the suspect's detention in order to continue collecting evidence and investigating the suspected connections. The court granted the request and ordered the extension of detention through September 23.

Police spokesperson stated that "Israel Police, together with the security agencies, will continue to act decisively against offenses of incitement and support for terrorism, until the full extent of the law is applied to anyone who takes part in these acts."

The case joins a series of investigations conducted over the past year against suspects with connections to hostile elements. About a month ago, a Jericho resident was arrested on suspicion of publishing inciting content on social media and openly supporting Hamas, as part of intelligence activity by the Gilad Intelligence Unit in cooperation with the Roeh Unit and Border Police fighters.
