UN Accuses US of War Crimes in Iran Military Strikes

An independent United Nations commission of inquiry has determined there are reasonable grounds to believe the United States committed war crimes during military strikes carried out on Iranian territory. The finding comes after what the commission described as an extensive investigation into attacks on civilian areas.

According to the report's findings, American strikes targeted a girls' school in the city of Minab in Hormozgan Province, as well as a sports center in the city of Lamerd in Fars Province. The commission noted that numerous civilians were harmed at both sites, and found no evidence that either location served military purposes at the time they were attacked.

The commission also determined that Iranian authorities committed crimes against humanity when suppressing anti-regime protests in January. The suppression included the use of live fire against demonstrators, arbitrary arrests, torture, and forced disappearances carried out systematically across the country.

In response to the report, U.S. officials rejected the findings and maintained that all operations were directed solely against military targets. Iranian Foreign Ministry officials, meanwhile, dismissed the conclusions regarding the domestic protests, claiming the commission is biased and serves a political agenda.

The report's publication comes as the Trump administration is conducting talks with Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump stated this week that he believes the conflict with Iran is nearing its end, claiming Tehran is "eager" to reach an agreement with Washington. When asked whether the contacts were conducted directly or through intermediaries, the president replied: "No, directly."
