Israel: Iran Holds 1,700 Long-Range Missiles

Israeli estimates put Iran's stock of ballistic missiles able to reach Israel at about 1,700, including several dozen built since the last conflict, alongside thousands of short-range missiles and drones

Iran now holds roughly 1,700 ballistic missiles with the range to strike Israel, Israeli estimates indicate. Several dozen of them have been produced since the last round of fighting.

Those long-range missiles are only one part of Tehran's arsenal. Iran also maintains thousands of short-range missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The new figure is lower than earlier Western intelligence assessments. As reported in October, assessments published by Bloomberg found that Iran had kept about 70% of its ballistic missile stockpile, some 1,800 to 2,000 missiles capable of reaching Israel. The same assessments found that around 60% of Iran's launchers and 40% of its attack drones had survived.

Those assessments also found that Iran had dispersed its production lines and storage depots deep underground, in facilities carved into hard granite mountains. Their findings contradicted official US and Israeli statements that Iran's missile and drone production infrastructure had been destroyed.

On October 19, Brig. Gen. Hossein Mohabbi, spokesman for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, posted an image of a ballistic missile launch with the English caption "The world will see what will happen!" The post followed his threat that any attack on Iran's energy infrastructure would "turn the occupied territories into scorched earth forever."
