double standard

Assayag: Left has problem with Mizrahi Jews

The screenwriter and comedian accused Israel's left-wing camp of a double standard: accepting Arabs from Arab countries while rejecting Jews from the same places

Meni Assayag

Screenwriter and comedian Meni Assayag launched a sharp attack Sunday against Israel's left-wing political camp, accusing it of a double standard toward Jews and Arabs who came from Arab countries. In remarks he published, Assayag claimed that while the left has no problem with Arabs who arrived from Arab countries, it struggles to accept Jews who came from those same countries.

"The left has long since proven that it has no problem whatsoever with the Arabs who came here from Arab countries, but it has a serious problem with the Jews who came here from Arab countries," Assayag wrote.

He concluded his remarks with a pointed criticism of the political camp he was targeting: "A flawed and crooked camp."
