Once the disappearance was discovered, emergency protocols went into effect: the entire battalion was placed under an exit lockdown, security cameras were reviewed, forces conducted sweeps of the base and surrounding area, and a drone was launched in an attempt to locate the vehicle. Despite these efforts, the Humvee was not found.
The case was transferred to the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division, which opened an investigation into the circumstances. At the same time, a warning was issued to bases in the southern region about the possibility that the stolen military vehicle could be used to penetrate IDF camps or training areas.
The footage has drawn outrage given that the vehicle was stolen from inside an IDF base, not from a civilian area.
An IDF spokesperson stated: "During routine checks by a military unit in southern Israel, a missing military Humvee was reported. Following this, an investigation was opened by the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division to clarify the circumstances of the incident. The Military Police Criminal Investigation Division will continue to act resolutely to eradicate the phenomenon of theft of military equipment and combat means, and to bring those involved to justice, should any be found."
