A major police operation in the village of Suwahrah led to the seizure of combat weapons and the arrest of a 27-year-old east Jerusalem resident, authorities announced. The raid, carried out by Jerusalem District's Central Unit and Border Police forces from Judea and Samaria, was part of an ongoing campaign against illegal weapons proliferation.
Dramatic footage from the operation shows officers methodically searching the residence, locating black bags and cases concealed in various hiding spots throughout the home. Wearing protective gloves, the officers extract an advanced M-16 assault rifle from the hidden bags, along with numerous loaded magazines, extensive ammunition, and black masks apparently intended for concealment during criminal activity. The items are removed one by one and laid out on a floor covered with a children's carpet, a stark illustration of the danger lurking within a civilian residential area.
The homeowner was arrested on suspicion of possessing the combat equipment. Following interrogation at the Jerusalem District's special investigations unit, he was brought before Jerusalem Magistrate's Court, which granted the police request and extended his detention until September 28, 2026.
Police officials noted that this seizure joins a series of operational successes in which more than 120 legal and illegal firearms have been confiscated since the beginning of 2026 in the Jerusalem District alone. Security sources emphasized that every such weapon seized prevents a potential disaster and keeps combat equipment out of hostile hands, adding that determined operational activity will continue at full intensity to protect public security.
