Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone Wednesday with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, according to an announcement from the Kremlin. The two leaders discussed "opportunities for cooperation between the two countries," the statement said.
The Kremlin further reported that Putin and al-Sharaa addressed "the situation in the country," with the Russian president reiterating his "principled position and support for the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria."
