An Iranian attack on the Prince Sultan Air Base, jointly operated by the US and Saudi Arabia, resulted in twelve American troops wounded and extensive damage in late March. The strike destroyed an Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft valued at hundreds of millions of dollars that was not parked in its regular location.
According to a CNN report, the precision attack succeeded thanks to fourteen Russian satellites that orbited above the base shortly before the strike. The satellites, including an advanced reconnaissance platform, provided imagery, pinpointed air defense systems, and intercepted internal communications at the facility.
Russian satellite assistance enabled Iran to identify the exact location of the AWACS aircraft, which was not in its usual parking spot, and successfully target it. Base air defense systems failed to prevent the hit, apparently due to the precise intelligence transmitted from Russian satellites.
