Senior and major Likud ministers, MKs and activists sent a letter today (Sunday) to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in honor of his departing to meet with President Donald Trump this week.
The letter states that:
"These days are of unprecedented significance for the state under your leadership and will influence its future and security for a long time to come.
"We are confident that you will ensure President Trump understands the critical security and historical importance of subduing Hamas, its absolute defeat and the destruction of all its capabilities: military, governmental, and economic, as well as the complete demilitarization of Gaza.
"The signatories emphasize the necessity of clarifying Israel's strategic objectives in the important meeting with President Trump, this against the backdrop of concerns about entering a situation that would halt the war and leave Hamas intact."
Signatories include Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Chairman MK Yuli Edelstein, Education Minister Yoav Kisch, Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi, and Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli. Also signed onto the letter are MK Tali Gottlieb, MK Danny Ilouz, Mk Eli Ravivo, and many others.
Prime Minister Netanyahu reportedly held a security consultation last week looking into the possibility of renewing the war after the first phase of the hostage deal is completed, including requiring the IDF to draw up operational plans to that end. Senior Israeli officials told Israeli media that they believe Netanyahu is serious about going in that direction.
