The father of Hassan Nasrallah, the late Hezbollah secretary-general killed by Israel last year, died Monday at age 90, according to announcements from Hezbollah and the Amal Movement.
Abdul-Karim Nasrallah's death comes approximately 18 months after his son was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut's Dahieh suburb in September 2024. Hassan Nasrallah's mother, Mahdiya Safi al-Din, died two years ago.
Hezbollah and Amal issued a joint obituary stating the funeral would take place Monday at 1 p.m., departing from Rawdat al-Shahideen square in the Ghobeiry neighborhood of Dahieh. He will be buried in the cemetery for "martyrs of the Islamic Resistance."
Abdul-Karim Nasrallah owned a vegetable shop in Beirut and raised a family of nine children. When Lebanon's civil war erupted in the 1970s, the family returned to live in the southern Lebanese town of Bourj Hammoud.
Hassan Nasrallah grew up in a Shiite family and was initially a member of the Shiite Amal Movement. His brother Hussein remains a senior member of Amal. Hassan later joined Hezbollah's founding group and became secretary-general in 1992 after the killing of Abbas Musawi.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed condolences, saying he offered "sincere sympathies on the passing of the late Sayyid Abdul-Karim Nasrallah, the honorable father of the martyr Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah," according to Lebanese media.
Araghchi said the deceased's life "was characterized by faith and a valuable educational role in raising a son who is a mujahid, resistance fighter and servant of the Islamic nation."
Family members occasionally participated in Hezbollah events over the years.
