A four-year-old boy from Beitar Illit has been discharged from Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital weeks after a horrific accident involving a massive pot of boiling soup. The child, who sustained second- and third-degree burns over approximately 40% of his body, has now been transferred to ALYN Hospital to begin long-term rehabilitation, as reported by Belaaz.
A Split-Second Tragedy
The incident occurred on a Friday night shortly before Passover during a communal meal distribution at a neighborhood synagogue. The boy’s mother recounted the harrowing moment of the accident: "His older brother asked him to move away. He stepped back, and without noticing, it was a matter of one second, he stumbled backward and fell into the pot."
Weeks of Intensive Treatment
Upon arrival at Hadassah’s trauma unit, the toddler was immediately rushed into surgery. Dr. Stav Serna-Cohen, head of the hospital’s burn unit, described a "long and complex" medical journey that required the child to be sedated and ventilated. His treatment included:
- Multiple Surgeries: Procedures to remove damaged tissue and perform skin grafts.
- Multidisciplinary Care: Around-the-clock support from specialized nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and dietitians.
- Wound Recovery: Hospital staff confirmed that all burns and open wounds have now successfully closed.
Road to Rehabilitation
While the acute medical phase has concluded, the boy faces a challenging path ahead at ALYN, a premier pediatric rehabilitation center. "He is now moving to the next stage of recovery," stated Dr. Serna-Cohen.
