A live television interview on Al Jazeera has provided a telling moment of uncertainty for Hamas, as one of its officials appeared to accidentally confirm the death of a senior leader targeted in an Israeli airstrike in Qatar.
While speaking about the recent attack, Hamas political bureau member Suhail al-Hindi used the Arabic word for "martyr" (shahid) when referring to terror leader Khalil al-Hayya. Video from the segment shows al-Hindi listing others killed as "martyrs" before briefly stumbling on al-Hayya's name, then immediately correcting himself.
The slip-up has been widely noted by Israeli media, who also emphasize that Jerusalem has not officially confirmed al-Hayya’s death. Hamas has maintained that its senior leadership, which was reportedly meeting to discuss a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal, survived the precision strike.
