The risk of a catastrophic regional war escalated sharply on Sunday as senior state media figures and military commanders in Tehran issued explicit calls for a direct, massive military assault against Israel. The aggressive rhetoric comes in immediate response to recent American precision strikes on Iranian coastal facilities, which have destabilized fragile diplomatic channels. Rather than targeting distant American territory, influential regime mouthpieces are demanding that the military apparatus direct its vast ballistic missile and drone arsenals toward America's closest regional ally.
Hossein Shariatmadari, the influential editor-in-chief of the hardline state-affiliated Kayhan newspaper, published a fiery editorial outlining the regime's strategic justification for expanding the war. "It is self-evident that our missile and drone attacks on American bases are logical and legal and must not be stopped, because the mentioned small countries have placed their territory and resources at the disposal of America and the Zionist regime for an attack against Iran," Shariatmadari wrote. He argued that these neighboring states are actively complicit in foreign crimes and must be suppressed with absolute force.
The editorial explicitly directed the military establishment to focus its operational capabilities on Israel to inflict maximum strategic damage on the United States. "But in the midst of this, an attack against the central and most sensitive vulnerable point of America, the Zionist regime, must not be ignored," Shariatmadari asserted. He further sought to minimize the distinction between Washington and Jerusalem by stating that "the Zionist regime is a mad dog and one of America's states. In other words, an attack against this regime is considered a direct attack against the United States itself."
Shariatmadari reasoned that since Iranian hardware cannot easily reach the United States mainland, targeting the closest American ally is the most effective military alternative. "If the range of our missiles and drones is still not enough to attack the territory of the United States, why should we not attack the Zionist regime, which is the closest American state to our country?" he asked. The state editor concluded that "numerous and well-founded reports indicate the very difficult and fragile situation of this regime, and without a doubt, an attack against its infrastructure and sensitive centers will deal devastating and severe blows to America."
Simultaneously, Iranian military spokesperson Mohammad Akrami Nya appeared on state television to accuse President Donald Trump of actively sabotaging local shipping agreements. Nya claimed that American naval forces are attempting to illegally dictate maritime routes through the southern sector of the Straits of Hormuz, directly violating a recent memorandum of understanding. "The Americans, and especially the current American president, have a long history of violating commitments," Nya stated, adding that "the Americans are trying to force an unprincipled route in the south of the Strait of Hormuz, which contradicts the memorandum of understanding signed with the Islamic Republic of Iran."
The military spokesperson asserted that under the terms of the recent pact, total responsibility for all maritime transit through the strategic waterway rests solely with Iran, which is attempting to manage the passage alongside the Sultanate of Oman. Nya warned that any foreign interference on local islands, coastlines, or facilities will continue to meet a lethal response. "Last night the Americans intervened for the umpteenth time, and we gave them a determined and harsh response," Nya stated, warning that the armed forces are constantly upgrading their combat readiness for all wartime scenarios.
The aggressive behavior from Tehran drew immediate, sharp condemnation from neighboring Arab governments who fear a total collapse of regional stability. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati strongly denounced the Iranian strikes against Gulf nations, labeling them a flagrant violation of sovereignty and a direct threat to collective security. Egypt's foreign ministry echoed these concerns, calling the actions a dangerous escalation that undermines all diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tension. In response to the rapidly deteriorating security environment, Qatar announced a total suspension of all domestic maritime operations until further notice as a critical safety precaution.
