A few kilometers across the border in southern Syria, a surprising memorial gathering took place in the center of a-Suwayda, the Druze-majority province. Druze residents assembled with Israeli flags, photographs of Prime Minister Netanyahu, messages condemning terror, and tributes to those murdered throughout the war.

Residents of a-Suwayda gather with Israeli flags and photos of Netanyahu, three years after the massacre that launched the war

During the rally, participants read statements of support for Israel and waved Israeli flags alongside images of the prime minister. Banners displayed messages about the shared suffering of Druze and Israelis at the hands of Arab regimes in the region.
The Druze also held up photographs of the twelve Druze children murdered by Hezbollah when a rocket struck the soccer field in Majdal Shams on July 27, 2024.
