Houthis strike Yemen presidential palace

The Iran-backed militia fired ballistic missiles at the Al-Ma'ashiq Palace, where Yemen's Saudi-backed government operates. Two guards were killed; the prime minister and cabinet were not in the compound at the time.

The city of Aden, Yemen

Houthi rebels fired ballistic missiles Thursday at the Al-Ma'ashiq presidential palace in the Yemeni city of Aden, where the country's Saudi-backed government is based. The strike killed two security guards and wounded six others, according to Yemen's official news agency, which is aligned with the government.

The Houthis claimed the palace was targeted because it housed a Saudi military command center and weapons depots. Yemen's prime minister and cabinet members were not in the compound when the missiles struck, the agency reported, and the government said all ministers would remain in Aden despite the attack.

In a statement following the strike, the Yemeni government said it would continue supporting Saudi forces and those fighting to restore state control from the Houthis. "The future of Yemen will not be held hostage by a militia that bears arms against its own people, threatens the security of its neighbors, and relies on violence to compensate for Yemenis' rejection of their coup project," the statement read.
