Bennett Sues Minister Silman for 2 Million NIS Over Mental Health Slurs
Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has launched a massive 2 million NIS lawsuit against Environment Minister Idit Silman and Channel 14, calling claims that he was mentally unfit for office "vicious lies" as the 2026 Isreli election cycle turns litigious.

Israel's political system is in turmoil following the filing of a scathing libel suit by former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.
The lawsuit targets Minister Idit Silman, MK Ohad Tal, and the Isreli Television station "Channel 14" , over public assertions that Bennett required psychiatric medication to function during his tenure as Prime Minister.
Bennett categorically rejected the allegations, describing them as a calculated attempt to deceive the public and ruin his professional standing. "The plaintiff has never taken any medicinal preparation for mental functioning," the lawsuit states. "These are lies fabricated by the defendant."
The legal battle stems from remarks made by Silman at a public event, where she claimed Bennett was "confused," "stuttering," and in a "very low mental state." She specifically alleged that those around him provided him with pills in "red boxes" to keep him functional, asserting that Yair Lapid was the one actually running the Prime Minister's Office.
Bennett frames the smear campaign as a desperate attempt by Silman to justify her "shameful defection" from the Yamina party, which led to the collapse of his government. His legal team argues that these statements do not fall under parliamentary immunity, as they were not made as part of a legitimate legislative role.
This high-profile clash signals a sharp shift in the political landscape as Israel heads toward the 2026 elections.
With the "personal mudslinging" season officially underway, legal experts predict that this is only the first of many defamation suits likely to surface in the coming months as candidates navigate an increasingly hostile race to the ballot box
