Fatal Collision Near Elad: Electric Vehicle Bursts into Flames After Truck Crash
A 50-year-old man was killed Sunday when his electric car collided with a truck near Elad and burst into flames. Firefighters battled an intense lithium battery blaze that spread to nearby fields, while two others were rushed to Beilinson Hospital.

A 50-year-old man was killed Sunday afternoon in a multi-vehicle collision involving a truck and an electric car on Route 4711, near the Haredi city of Elad.
The impact caused the electric vehicle to ignite, with the fire spreading rapidly to nearby brush. Emergency responders from MDA and United Hatzalah performed advanced resuscitation efforts on the driver at the scene, but were ultimately forced to pronounce him dead due to severe multi-system trauma and thermal injuries.
Technical Challenges for Firefighters
Firefighting crews faced a complex scene as the electric car’s lithium-ion battery continued to burn with high intensity. "The main challenge was containing the blaze from the electric vehicle, which threatened to ignite the entire open area around us," said Incident Commander Rav Reshef Tamir Cohen. Crews used specialized equipment designed for lithium battery fires while simultaneously battling a brush fire sparked by the crash.
Casualties and Medical Response
In addition to the fatality, two other individuals were injured:
Both were treated on-site before being evacuated to the trauma unit at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva. The truck driver involved in the accident was also treated for minor injuries at the scene.
"When we arrived, we saw a difficult scene," described MDA paramedics Motti Farkash and Matan Yarom. "The car was fully engulfed in flames following the collision with the truck. The victim was found lying unconscious beside the vehicle."
Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the crash, which brought traffic to a standstill at the entrance to the city.
