West Bank Security Incident

Fake Bomb on Palestinian Flag Sparks Alert

Security forces responded to a suspicious object near a Judea and Samaria outpost, later determined to be a hoax device designed to create panic

Fake Explosive Device Attached to Palestinian Flag

Israeli security forces responded to a security incident Sunday in Judea and Samaria after a suspicious object attached to a Palestinian flag was discovered near Metzudat David, a small farming outpost. Initial reports raised concerns about a possible explosive device intended to harm local farmers, residents, or security personnel operating in the area, particularly given repeated attempts by hostile elements to stage provocations and attacks in rural parts of Judea and Samaria (the West Bank).

Police from the Judea and Samaria district were immediately dispatched to the scene, along with bomb disposal experts from the Border Police's Judea and Samaria division, who arrived under tight security provided by IDF soldiers. The forces cordoned off the area and began professional procedures to neutralize the potential threat.

After careful scanning and thorough examination by the bomb technicians using specialized equipment, it was determined that the object was not an active explosive device but rather a fake bomb apparently designed to create panic and test the response time of security forces arriving at the scene.

Analysis of the findings at the site and photographs circulated from the incident revealed that those who placed the object used a Palestinian flag mounted on a wooden pole positioned on a ridge overlooking the outpost buildings. Attached to the bottom of the pole with red electrical tape were ammunition items and pouches connected to yellow electrical wires, arranged to simulate the activation mechanism of an improvised explosive device. These kind of exercises are typically designed to lure local residents or security forces to touch the flag or approach it, thereby creating deterrence and disrupting normal life in the area.

After the bomb disposal experts completed their professional handling of the object and removed the threat, all items and evidence collected from the scene were transferred for further processing at Israel Police forensic laboratories. An official investigation was opened by the Judea and Samaria district to trace the identity of those involved in placing the fake device and to prosecute them to the full extent of the law.

Security officials reiterated their instructions to residents not to approach suspicious objects or flags placed in the field, and to immediately report such findings to the police emergency number 100.
