In an emotional visit to Jerusalem's Gush Katif Museum, former hostage Yosef Haim Ohana toured the institution alongside his father and other family members. Ohana, who was kidnapped on the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah and held in Hamas tunnels for two years before his release, spent extended moments taking in the museum's exhibits.
The former captive stood silently, visibly moved, as he viewed reconstructions of synagogues that once stood in Gush Katif, the memorial candelabra honoring fallen soldiers from the area, and displays documenting the Jewish history of the Gaza coastal region before the 2005 disengagement. During his visit, which coincided with the Hebrew month of Elul, Ohana also heard the traditional shofar blast sounded in preparation for the High Holidays. "It's really like coming and feeling Gush Katif for a moment," he said of the experience.
