Beneath the Ruins: The Names of the Family Members Lost in the Haifa Bombing Revealed
The search for four missing residents in Haifa has ended in tragedy, with rescue teams recovering the bodies of a local family and their caregiver from the ruins of a collapsed building.

A somber atmosphere has descended over the city of Haifa as emergency services confirmed the deaths of four individuals who were trapped beneath a collapsed residential building. Following an intensive, hours-long operation by the National Rescue Unit (Yachza) and the Home Front Command, the bodies of Vladimir Gershovitz, Lena Gershovitz, Dmitry Gershovitz, and a caregiver identified as Lucille-Jane were recovered from the debris. The building had been struck by a heavy Iranian ballistic missile on Sunday evening, which caused significant structural failure and sparked a large fire. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his "deep sorrow" over the loss of life, stating that he has instructed all government offices to provide immediate assistance to the grieving families and the Haifa municipality.
A Community in Mourning
Among the victims was Lena Ostrovsky, a beloved vocal development teacher at the Nissan Nativ acting studio. Lena was described by her students and colleagues as a dedicated and meticulous professional who saw the best in every student. Her tragic death has sent shockwaves through the local artistic community, where she was known for her warm smile and generous spirit. The rescue effort involved dozens of reservists and medical officers who used advanced technology to navigate the unstable ruins of the five-story structure. Despite the speed and professionalism of the Lehava unit and the Fire and Rescue services, the severity of the 450-kilogram missile strike proved fatal for those in the lower sections of the building.
The search was complicated by fears that the missile's warhead had not fully detonated, forcing the evacuation of several surrounding blocks as a safety precaution. Mayor Yona Yahav, who met with the Prime Minister, requested urgent support for the city’s residents who are currently facing the trauma of the ongoing war. While the 82-year-old man rescued earlier in the night remains in serious condition at Rambam Hospital, the recovery of the remaining four residents has turned the site into a place of memorial. The IDF and local social services are now working to provide psychological support to the survivors and neighbors who witnessed the destruction, as the city of Haifa prepares to bury four of its own.
