Police in Eilat have filed 15 indictments against a couple in their 30s from Haifa, alleging they used a family vacation to the resort city as cover for a systematic theft operation that involved their three young children, according to Kikar HaShabbat.
The investigation, which began approximately half a year ago after store owners and managers reported a pattern of thefts, concluded this week with charges against both the father and mother. The father has been arrested and remains in custody pending trial.
According to police, the couple's children, ages eight and nine, actively participated in the thefts across multiple stores. The couple's one-year-old daughter played a more passive but crucial role: police say stolen merchandise was concealed in her stroller as the family moved through retail locations.
Security camera footage released by police shows the operation in action. In one video from a sporting goods and clothing store, the woman can be seen examining items and removing shoe boxes from shelves while the man exploits the positioning of the infant's stroller to place stolen goods inside. The two older children remain visible throughout, moving near their parents as the thefts unfold.
The total value of goods allegedly stolen over the course of their stay exceeded 100,000 shekels. Multiple stores throughout Eilat reported losses, suggesting a coordinated series of incidents rather than isolated theft.
Police conducted surveillance and compiled evidence from security cameras and witness accounts across multiple retail establishments before bringing charges. Investigators built the evidentiary case over several weeks of work, according to Kikar HaShabbat.
