Escalation Looming?

Iran: U.S. Preparing New Strikes on Us

Iranian military command claims it has intelligence showing Washington is readying renewed attacks with regional backing, threatens sustained, effective and painful retaliation against American bases and interests across the Middle East

Iran's "Khatam al-Anbiya" military headquarters issued a stark warning Sunday, claiming it has received intelligence that the United States is preparing to launch another round of strikes against the Islamic Republic with backing from regional states. The military command threatened that any attack would trigger an Iranian response "without any limitations" targeting American bases and objectives throughout the region, as well as allied countries.

"According to the intelligence in our possession, the United States has once again decided, with a green light from several regional countries, to renew operations against the Islamic Republic of Iran," the statement claimed. "The decision was made during a joint meeting in one of the European countries."

"We warn that if the United States carries out an act of aggression against Iran, all its bases in the region and all its interests there will be subject to sustained, effective and painful attacks, without any limitation or reservation," the Iranian military threatened. The statement went further, cautioning regional states: "We also warn that if the countries of the region continue their double-faced policy toward Iran and stand alongside the Great Satan's aggression against mighty Iran, they will all be considered partners in these acts of aggression. In such a case, they can no longer expect Iran's armed forces to exercise restraint."

The Iranian warning comes as President Donald Trump cut short his weekend trip and returned to the White House overnight. Simultaneously, the U.S. Embassy in Israel issued an urgent and unusual security alert to American citizens in the region, citing escalating tensions between Iranian-backed Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia and concerns about a broader Middle East conflagration.

The embassy advisory called on citizens to heighten their vigilance "due to tensions in the Middle East" and made clear that "there is potential for unexpected escalation." The diplomatic mission also recommended Americans continuously check flight status and departure schedules at Israeli airports before arriving.

"The Iranian-backed Houthis are engaged in hostile actions against Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting civilian airports," the security alert stated. "There is potential for rapid escalation of this military confrontation. American citizens traveling to or from the region should closely monitor information regarding airport operations and airline activity."

The embassy echoed concerns about potential strikes on American targets worldwide: "U.S. diplomatic missions, even outside the Middle East, have been targeted for attacks in the past. Iran and organizations supporting it may strike at additional American interests overseas or at sites identified with the United States and its citizens, including American businesses and institutions."
