Israel’s Clan Strategy Backfires: Hamas Seizes Weapons, Trucks, and Cash
Military officials confirm assets supplied to Gaza clans fell into Hamas’ hands, sparking internal criticism and fears of a Hezbollah-style repeat.

Israeli defense officials confirmed that weapons, vehicles, and cash transferred to anti-Hamas clans in Gaza have been seized by Hamas following weeks of violent crackdowns across the Strip.
According to Mako, Hamas has captured at least 45 pickup trucks, hundreds of Kalashnikov rifles, machine guns, grenades, and significant cash sums initially supplied by Israel. The report adds that the terror group is also exploiting advanced communication systems and humanitarian aid trucks.
The revelations have ignited harsh criticism within Israel’s security establishment, with one senior officer saying, “We helped Hamas rearm. Everyone knew this plan would collapse.”
Some are criticizing the “clan project,” which was intended to foster local resistance to Hamas and serve as a governance alternative. Comparisons are being drawn to Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000, when weapons given to local allies were later captured by Hezbollah.
Security sources warn that as Israeli forces continue to withdraw under the ceasefire framework, Hamas will consolidate its rule and absorb yet more weapons, vehicles, and funds left behind.
