Lebanon heats up

Expanding the Campaign: Government to Approve Call-Up of 400,000 IDF Reservists

As the "buffer zone" grows and the Litani bridges fall, the IDF is moving from a localized defense to a massive structural shift, preparing for a theater of war that now stretches from the Lebanese border to the heart of Tehran.

Expanding the Campaign: Government to Approve Call-Up of 400,000 IDF Reservists

Amid the expansion of ground maneuvers in Lebanon and the ongoing war against Iran, the Israeli government is expected to approve a massive increase in the reserve soldier recruitment ceiling. According to a report on Kan Reshet Bet’s "Midday" program, the government will authorize the mobilization of up to 400,000 reservists.

Strategic Flexibility

While the formal ceiling is set to reach 400,000, officials clarify that the actual number of soldiers in active service is expected to be lower. The primary purpose of the higher cap is to provide the IDF with operational flexibility to rotate forces and manage the reserve pool more effectively as the conflict intensifies.

  • The Current Limit: Until now, the authorized ceiling stood at 260,000 soldiers, based on a government decision from January intended to "lighten the burden" on active units.
  • The Military's Request: The security establishment originally requested a ceiling of 450,000, but the political echelon opted to approve 400,000 for the time being.

    Escalation on Multiple Fronts

The decision comes as Israel significantly broadens its military objectives:

    • The Lebanon Buffer Zone: Israel is seeking to greatly expand the security "buffer zone" in Southern Lebanon. Following Hezbollah’s recent entry into the direct conflict, Prime Minister Netanyahu reportedly ordered the IDF to target civilian-linked infrastructure used by the terror group to pressure the Lebanese government
    • .Hezbollah’s Warning: In response to the destruction of key infrastructure, including a strategic bridge over the Litani River, a Hezbollah official warned through the Iranian news agency IRNA: "We are preparing for a long war... there are surprises coming, especially in the field of suicide drones."
    • Pressure on Beirut: Hezbollah officials further declared that they intend to force the Lebanese government to reverse its decision to ban the group's military activities once the war concludes.
