Fallen in the North: Staff Sgt. Negev Dagan Killed in Brutal Lebanon Battle
Staff Sgt. Negev Dagan, a 12th Battalion Golani soldier, was killed by a Hezbollah mortar shell during a high-stakes mission near the strategic Litani River.

The IDF has cleared for publication the death of Staff Sgt. Negev Dagan, a 21-year-old soldier from the community of Dekel, who fell in combat in southern Lebanon. Dagan was a dedicated fighter in the 12th Battalion of the Golani Brigade and was participating in a complex offensive in the Litani River sector when he was fatally struck by a mortar shell launched by Hezbollah terrorists. The incident occurred late Thursday night as Israeli forces continued their push to dismantle terror infrastructure deep within Lebanese territory.
Dagan's death comes as the Golani Reconnaissance Unit completes a ten-day specialized operation approximately 10 kilometers from the Israeli border. The mission represents a significant milestone in the war, as it marks the first time Israeli ground forces have reached strategic points along the banks of the Litani River during this campaign. Footage released by the military shows the troops navigating mountainous terrain and thick brush to reach the water's edge, where they successfully captured several key Hezbollah compounds.
The primary objective of this deep incursion was the destruction of both surface and underground terror assets that have been used to target northern Israeli communities. During the ten days of intense fighting, Golani units eliminated over 70 terrorists, often in close-quarters engagements. Commanders in the field reported that many Hezbollah fighters chose to retreat from direct contact, leaving behind massive caches of anti-tank missiles, small arms, and tactical communications equipment.
Soldiers in the Litani sector are operating under a constant threat from Hezbollah's explosive suicide drones. To mitigate this danger, the IDF has deployed creative field solutions, including specialized protective netting wrapped around Humvees and command posts to intercept the drones before they can detonate. These physical barriers have become an essential part of the "low-altitude" war as the military seeks to protect its advancing columns from aerial harassment.
Staff Sgt. Dagan, the son of Hava and Shalom and a brother to five, was described by his community as a social and opinionated young man who loved working with his hands. Before his service, he was known for his diligence and his passion for repairing old vehicles. His loss has brought a wave of grief to the Eshkol Regional Council, a community that has already suffered immense tragedy during the course of the regional war.
The IDF intends to maintain its presence in the newly captured territories along the Litani to prevent the rehabilitation of the Radwan Force. Engineering units are currently working to clear mines and destroy the remaining tunnel shafts found in the area. As the military evaluates the next phase of the maneuver, the sacrifice of soldiers like Negev Dagan remains a sobering reminder of the high cost of securing the northern border against the Iranian-backed threat.
