Israeli security forces arrested a 19-year-old resident of northern Israel on August 16 on suspicion of supporting the Islamic State terror organization, known as ISIS or Daesh. Yaakov Shibli, from the village of Shibli in the north, was detained in a joint operation by the Shin Bet security service and the Israel Police's Northern District Central Unit.

According to a joint statement released by police and Shin Bet spokespeople, interrogation revealed that Shibli had expressed identification with the Islamic State terror organization. Investigators determined that in recent months, he had been viewing content related to the terror group and had sworn an oath of allegiance to the organization.

This arrest represents the fourth such case in recent days involving residents of northern Israel charged with expressing support for ISIS. Security officials say the pattern indicates a growing threat from the organization and its sympathizers within Israeli territory.

Following the investigation, the Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment through attorney Marina Rosenfeld at the Nof HaGalil-Nazareth Magistrate's Court. Shibli is charged with membership in a terrorist organization.

In their joint statement, the Shin Bet and Israel Police emphasized their determination to act against any activity that endangers state security and its citizens. "We will continue to act decisively to thwart any activity against the State of Israel," the statement read.

Recent months have seen several arrests of northern residents suspected of identifying with ISIS. Cases include a 20-year-old from Nahf who swore allegiance to the organization and planned to carry out an attack against Israel Defense Forces soldiers in Karmiel, and a 15-year-old minor who pledged loyalty to the group and was found in possession of instructions for manufacturing an explosive belt.

Security officials warn that since the outbreak of the current war, there has been a noticeable increase in the threat level from the Islamic State and its supporters within Israeli territory. The Shin Bet, together with Israel Police and all enforcement agencies, continues to act firmly against any security activity that threatens the State of Israel.
