Israeli security officials estimate that the current round of fighting with Iran will not end quickly, and that Israel is now facing several days of intense combat.

The assessment comes after a night of escalation, during which the Israeli Air Force carried out a broad wave of strikes across Iran in response to Iranian missile fire toward Israel.

According to Israeli reports, the strikes targeted energy facilities and infrastructure sites connected to the Iranian regime. The attacks followed a renewed Iranian barrage toward Israel, including launches that triggered sirens in central and southern Israel.

In Israel, officials believe the rules of the conflict changed overnight. Iran, they say, has managed to revive the principle of uniting the fronts, responding to Israeli action in Beirut with a direct attack on Israel and signaling that the various arenas are once again connected.

The Houthis in Yemen also joined the messaging, declaring earlier this morning that “the era of separate fronts is over.”

Israeli decision-makers are now waiting to see how Iran and its regional proxies proceed, while the US administration is expected to play a major role in shaping Israel’s next steps.

For now, the working assumption in the defense establishment is that the fighting will continue for several more days, with further Israeli strikes in Iran possible alongside continued attempts by Tehran and its allies to target Israel.
